Old Lady Harley #4 Review

Writer: Frank Tieri

Just when you think things can’t get even crazier, the team behind Old Lady Harley up the ante even more. First stop, Harley and the gang pay Lobo, who is now mayor of Las Vegas because of course he is, a visit. He was there the day Joker died, but he tells Harley if anyone would know what happened to Joker on that fateful day, it would be Aquaman, who is now literally half-fish.

The gang makes their way to Atlantis where Aquaman is hosting a summit with Lex Luthor and Power Girl. All hell breaks loose though when fish bearing Joker shows up. The henchmen lead Harley right to Joker, and we’re set up for an epic finale to a storyline I’ve enjoyed the hell out of.

It’s incredible to see how many jokes and visual gags the team can fit onto a single page. It’s hilarious when the crew goes to the strip club and Harley sees a stripper dressed like the Suicide Squad version of herself, and Catwoman finds a stripper in the old-school 60s get-up. And of course, there’s Lady Mrglbbequrrrrrrp, which is straight out of a Rick and Morty episode.

It’s not all fun and games though. The artwork on the Joker fish is horrifying in the best way. Oddly enough, it’s the giant whale mouth agape that’s the most disturbing thing on the page. And then there’s that close-up on the Joker himself on the very last panel. This series may be funny, but it’s never lost just how big the stakes are.

I feel like I’m repeating myself on every review of Old Lady Harley, but it’s really just so good. I’m sad this mini-series is about to come to an end, but I know it’s going to be one fantastic finale.
