There has been one question lurking in Carter Halls mind for as long as he can remember. “How many lives have I lived? And how many more will I continue to live?” The answer is finally here and it is not what anyone was expecting.
Robert Venditti has done something I thought to be impossible. Venditti continues to make me pre-order every Hawkman issue the second another is released. This story is bringing life to Hawkman (no pun intended). Hawkman has always been an interesting character, for most comic book collectors, his first volume holds some big “key issues” none having to do anything with him though! This “Origin” is ground breaking for Hawkman. Not only has he finally found the truth about who he is, but now he knows he has a limit on his reincarnation. And throughout this issue, we see who I can only assume is Kendra Saunders, or at least someone who will become Kendra Saunders, and as for this new found limitation of reincarnation, does that also apply to Hawkgirl? It will be very interesting to see how their lives intertwine and how she came to live the same curse as Carter.
Venditti has now created even more purpose to each and every reincarnation of Carter Hall. But with purpose, does Carter now continue his journey to finally end his curse of stall in order to live forever? Carter has lived many lives but is the debt close to being paid? It’s hard to imagine that there will be a time when Hawkman is no more. I’m sure Venditti will write some epic loop hole for Carter to help him maintain the power of reincarnation, but only time will tell. And according to Carter’s ship, next stop is one I’m looking forward to very much. Krypton.
