Harley Quinn #36 Review

Harley Quinn #36

Writer: Frank Tieri
Art: Inaki Miranda
Color: Alex Sinclair

We get a chance to see Bat-Harley in all her glory in the latest issue of Harley Quinn. I really dig the design of Bat-Harley, and even moments when she’s doing something silly like stuffing her face with hot dogs, I still felt caught off-guard by her appearance. There are a lot of great moments in this issue, so let’s dig in.

The Gang of Harleys try to stop Quinn from terrorizing Coney Island. Meanwhile, Red Tool and company go to Dr. Langstrom’s wife’s office to try to find an antidote. Although Langstrom manages to escape, the crew is able to inject Harley with the formula returning her to normal. However, they’re not out in the clear yet. For as-of-yet unknown reasons, it appears as though the Penguin himself is responsible for setting Francine Langstrom on Harley, but we’ll have to wait until the next issue to find out why.

From the puking bit at the beginning to Red Tool not understanding the story of the orangutan and the frog, there were a lot of funny beats here. I was also absolutely tickled when Harley visits the store owner who already has an abundance of Bat-Harley merchandise he’s trying to hock.

I’m a little bummed Bat-Harley is already gone so soon although I wouldn’t rule out a return before the end of the arc. The art was exquisite. I loved all the details in the giant bats and how gross all of them looked. Now that we know Penguin is involved, I can’t wait to see what happens to Harley next.
