According to an exclusive report from Variety, Walter Hamada, the former production executive at New Line, is being promoted to oversee production on DC Films and all other comic book movies for Warner Bros.
Last month we learned that Warner Bros. was looking to make some changes to their DC Films division following the disappointing critical and financial performance of Justice League. Jon Berg and Geoff Johns were formally overseeing DC Films production, but Berg was removed from his position leaving some uncertainty about Johns’ role. Johns will now be working closely with Hamada on all future films.
Warner Bros. Chief Content Officer had this to say about these changes to DC Films leadership: “Walter is creative, resourceful, and committed to excellence, and will bring those qualities to his oversight of our superhero films. I’m confident Walter and Geoff, working with our filmmaking partners, will deliver films that will resonate with both broad global audiences as well as DC fanboys and fangirls.”
It’s unlikely Hamada will have much influence in Aquaman, DC’s next movie to be released, as it’s currently in post production. However, Shazam! is set to begin production in the next several months, followed by Wonder Woman 2 and Suicide Squad 2 later this year, all of which Hamada will have plenty of time to involve himself with.
