Earlier this week, Ben Affleck’s brother, Casey Affleck, accidentally rekindled the whole “Ben Affleck won’t play Batman after Justice League” rumors. Casey was a guest on sports radio show WEEI, and was asked if Ben would still play Batman in Matt Reeve’s upcoming movie, to which he responded, “he’s not gonna do that movie, I don’t think.” Seconds later, he clarified he was just making that up, but of course it was too late, and the internet ran with it.
Casey’s rep clarified to Buzzfeed that he had no “firsthand knowledge” when he said that, and seemed to imply Casey was just joking around. Additionally, a source close to Ben Affleck also told Buzzfeed that nothing has changed since his statements at Comic-Con, where he said he was “the luckiest guy in the world” to play Batman, and that he’s “thrilled to do it.” The source went on to affirm Ben’s statements from July saying, “he’ll continue to be Batman as long as the studio will have him.”
While it is a bit strange that Casey wasn’t sure of Ben Affleck’s true intentions about playing Batman in the future, I think it’s safe to say that there’s no reason to think he won’t play Batman until it is confirmed by the studio, Matt Reeves, or himself.
