All-Star Batman #12 Review

Just when we all thought Scott Snyder just couldn’t get any better, with Metal and All-Star at the top of their games, along comes All-Star Batman #12. With the first two issues in “The First Ally” being stellar as well, telling a compelling Alfred story. With #12 this arc really hits its stride and will leave you reeling.

What is this all about?

All-Star Batman #12‘THE FIRST ALLY’ part three! When Batman discovers the truth about the man under the Nemesis mask, it could change everything between him and Alfred forever.

The Review

As with the first two issues of this arc, we continue to see both Alfred and Bruces stories in parallel. Showing who Alfred’s mentor when he was younger and showing more about the Nemesis Program. Eventually begging Bruce to just let this all go, as he knows how bad it can all get. Not only does Alfred know the Knight, he helped build and shape it. Yet Alfred knows that he will never let this go, he will never let allow anyone to be hurt as he was.

All-Star Batman #12Alfred and Bruce have always had the best dynamics in comics. Yet Snyder manages to take this to another level, exploring that relationship and showing how deep it really goes. Not only is Alfred his Father but he is also his mentor and partner. Digging even deeper hitting on notes that as a parent feel all too real, this all comes from the heart. Speaking of feeling like a failure at times but also knowing that failure is part of learning. As a new father, this all hits home and resonates on a whole new level.

However, this issue is not just filled with emotional hits, it’s also an action powerhouse. All-Star Batman #12When Snyder isn’t busy hitting you in the gut with all of the feels, Albuquerque is packing the page with glorious action. From fight scenes to the inevitable double cross that we all saw coming, this issue is stunning. Albuquerque and Bellaire take your breath away each turn of the page.

Final Words

All-Star Batman has hit its stride as if it wasn’t good enough before, it’s even better now. At this point, it almost feels like Snyder, Albuquerque, Bellaire, and Wands are just running up the score, delivering a masterpiece. If you’re not reading All-Star Batman, you need to get your head checked, this is the best title out right now.
