Dark Days: The Forge #1 Review

The prelude to the comic summer blockbuster Metal has arrived. Oh boy, it is a doozie, this is one cram packed issue with something for everyone. The all-star creative team really does something special here, delivering a title well worth the cover price. Setting up the mystery that extends across the vast DC Universe. This will be a spoiler-free discussion, as everyone NEEDS to go pick this title up.Dark Days: The Forge #1

In this first issue, we are taken to Mogo, the Batcave, the Campus, the Lunar Batcave, the Fortress of Solitude, and throughout time. All of this is weaved in with so many easter eggs along the way, it will simply leave your head spinning. Oh, yeah and a big smile on your face after a few key reveals, there is something here for everyone. However, that is not to say that you have to be a DC expert to enjoy this comic. While there are plenty of deep cuts into the DC mythos. There is also plenty of explanation as the story moves along, making this title new reader friendly.Dark Days: The Forge #1

Scott Snyder’s fingerprints are all over this title, weaving a story that is already showing some serious depth. Once again displaying his meticulous attention to detail and endless research on each of his titles. Adding a dimension to his stories that can be felt throughout this issue. Making second and third reads of this issue reveal things that you didn’t catch before. Not to be forgotten you can feel Tynion IV’s influences here as well, quickly becoming one of my favorite DC writers.

Continuing the astounding cast on this title we see iconic artists each working on a section of the book. Creating beautiful spreads with every page turn, the hallmarks of an A-list event. Managing to unite all of these artists in a single title is quite impressive and makes for a visually stunning title. The amount of polish on this title is second to none, DC has pulled out all stops here. Delivering the blockbuster must-read title of the summer.Dark Days: The Forge #1

DC’s Dark Days have officially kicked off, hold on to the seat of your pants, it’s going to be a wild ride. With a front row seat to the spanning mystery that kicks off DC Metal, you would be insane to miss out on this. No mistake about it, this is a must buy for all comic book fans!
