Charles Roven Confirms ‘Aquaman’ Will Take Place After ‘Justice League’

The DCEU is still in the beginning stages of building itself as a cinematic universe. This means that sometimes the order of events can be a little bit confusing. The first three films, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad were released in chronological order based on their events.

But the fourth entry in the DCEU, Wonder Woman, serves as an origin story and actually takes place about 100 years prior to the other films. With Justice League set to debut this November, and several other “solo” films slated to released in 2018 and beyond, some fans have been wondering if the events of those films will take place prior to Justice League, or after.

In an interview with Cinemablend, DC Films producer Charles Roven stated that Aquaman will in fact take place after the events of Justice League:

“Aquaman will make reference [to Justice League]. There will be some reference of something that preceded Aquaman that will be in Aquaman. I believe that is the intention.”

In regards to other future films in the DCEU, Roven said they could take place anytime before and after Justice League, but not in between Batman v Superman and Justice League. Check out the full interview here.

Justice League opens in theaters on November 17th, 2017, and Aquaman is set to release on December 21st, 2018.
