The past month has been one heck of a roller coaster in regards ‘The Batman’. First, Ben Affleck stepped down as direct and was even rumored to leave the project altogether. Then, we got a glimmer of hope as Matt Reeves was reportedly in talks to step in as director. But that hope was killed rather quickly as talks between Reeves and Warner Bros. diffused leaving the project director-less once again.
Now it’s been officially reported by Justin Kroll of Variety that Matt Reeves has closed the deal, and will indeed direct ‘The Batman’!
Reeves is known for his work on ‘The Planet of the Apes’ franchise. He has been a top choice to replace Ben Affleck as director for many fans as well as for Warner Bros., so this is great news for the state of this film. Here’s his official statement:
“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”
There is no official release date for ‘The Batman’, but if all goes well, it could begin production as early as this summer!
