Black Manta’s involvement in 2018’s ‘Aquaman’ film has been long rumored, and today The Hollywood Reporter announced that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is in early talks to appear as the first live-action Black Manta.
Here is the official casting for the film so far:
- Aquaman – Jason Momoa
- Mera – Amber Heard
- Orm (Ocean Master) – Patrick Wilson
- Vulko – Willem Dafoe
- Yahya Abdul Matteen II – Black Manta
Yahya is also said to share top billing with Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Amber Heard (Mera).
If I may be so bold as to make an early prediction – this cast has “Throne of Atlantis” all over it. If I were a betting man, I’d say there’s a good chance ‘Aquaman’ will adapt that story arc to some degree. But, I’ve been wrong before, so it’s probably good that I’m not a betting man!
‘Aquaman’ is being directed by James Wan, and is currently in pre-production with a release date of October 5th, 2018.
What do you think of this casting choice? Do you think ‘Aquaman’ will borrow elements from the “Throne of Atlantis” storyline? Let’s talk about it in the comments below!
